The Barbara Munther Kingshill
Benefit for Parkinson's
Tennis Tournament, Dinner & Silent Auction
October 10, 2009
Barbara is our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, sister, aunt, teacher and friend and she has Parkinson's disease. We are doing this in her honor.
Hello and welcome! Here is the beginning of the story...
My relationship with Barbara Munther -- "Miss Munther to me" --started the year my mother was sick and dying of cancer. Miss Munther wasn't my teacher, but she was the favorite teacher at our elementary school. She welcomed me into her classroom after school and let me clean her chalkboards. I invited her to my house that Christmas to see our Christmas tree. Six months later, Barbara Munther married my father, Norman Kingshill, and instantly became the mother to five children. She quit her teaching job to stay home and take care of us. They had a sixth child five years later.
Our Mother has devoted her life to giving to others. She spent years volunteering in the classroom in Oakland, she worked at The Crisis Nursery in Concord and volunteered at The Peace Center in Walnut Creek. She has been a big part of the lives of 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She has been there to support all six of her children through thick and thin.
After my Mom's Parkinson's diagnosis around four years ago, I had a difficult time watching her strong, fit body lose strength. My feelings of frustration led me to the idea of a fundraiser to raise money to help fight the disease. Thankfully, all of my brothers and sisters and their spouses have come together with me to organize this event.
We hope that you will join us October 10, 2009 in our quest to raise money in honor of our mother, Barbara Kingshill, to help give her and other Parkinson's patients hope for a cure in the future.
